Here is the question: could this rearend be original out of some GM car, or is it a modified rear that has the X-frame brackets welded onto it? The bolt pattern is Chevy 5 on 4.75, just like the original.Īny help is greatly appreciated and will assist me if i ever need to get parts for it so I can give the computer parts guy a year and model of car to look up in the computer. Here is probably more info. I know it is not the original rearend for the car because 10-bolts did not exist before 1964 or 1965. There are no upper control arms, it mounts just like the original rearend did. ![]() The brackets on the rearend sure look like factory welds from a reasonable look, I have not yet removed all the dirt and cleaned to bare metal to really inspect it close. The brackets on the rearend bolt up with the two large lower control arms and a panhard bar, just like the stock rearend does. This rearend is the GM 10-bolt style with an inspection plate rear cover. It has a 10-bolt style rear, NOT the original style 55-64 type rearend with a drop-out center section. ![]() My question is related to the 60 El Camino's rearend. However, now I REALLY need to sell the 27 coupe project, but that is another issue. The 60 was too good of deal to pass up and i can drive it while working on the 59, sure better than driving my big Chevy dually around as a dialy driver. I just picked up a cheap 60 El Camino to drive around while i fix-up my new 59. ![]()
